Everyone I’m sure wants to keep their memories alive by taking care of their baby photos. Knowing the correct way to take care of the photos is important so that you can have them around for years of recollecting. An important way of looking after your baby photos is by keeping them out of the suns rays. Actually, it is important, not only to keep them out of sunlight, but any type of light for a long period of time. Light not only destroys color in all pictures, it will also cause your photos to dry rot quickly. Black and white photos are not immune from this process as well, for it does the same damage to them. Too much heat is also very bad for your photographs. Many people store their baby photos in a garage, attic or hot closets and this is no good for them at all. The best place to store them is in a dry, cool, mold free place where light won’t glare on the pictures. Be sure not to put the baby photos next to a register vent because the changes in temperature will damage them too. The best thing to do is to put them in a well-constructed polypropylene picture album, as this type of plastic won’t degrade and spoil your baby photos. If you intend to put the images in a frame, be careful to take some precautions before doing so. Make sure that it is out of direct sunlight. A hall with low-level lighting would be a good idea. Mounting your picture on matting that is anti acid and has lignin to protect them from damage is also good practice. Many people have lost precious baby photos because they placed the photos in a frame without any spacers behind. The picture became pushed up against the glass and consequently when it came to be removed it was damaged. Photos can also be damaged by excessive smoke from cigars and cigarettes. Therefore, where there are likely to be pictures, smoking should be refrained from or limited. Remember if you have any pictures in the kitchen area, they can be affected and even destroyed by heavy smoke from foods. Smokey meat fumes can infiltrate your baby photos and ruin them. Pictures such as these hold special memories and have a unique place in our hearts. Try to ensure that your baby photos are as colorful and vibrant as they were on the day they were taken. If it is too late and the damage is already done, you can always take them to a professional to be restored. Whatever you do with your baby photos remember to treat them with loving care.
